How do you nurture and keep the best people in your organisation? Does your company provide a career path for your employees? We have listed five ways to help make this possible:

SHOW THAT THEY ARE VALUED.

It is not always true that an employees’ main priority at work is to earn money. Aside from material things, there are also other important factors that make an employee feel valued and satisfied with their chosen occupation. A generous salary and productivity based incentives are excellent ways to motivate your people, but the true value of things are often intangible. A pleasant work environment, a good company culture and a sense of belonging are also important factors for keeping your employees motivated.

GET THEM INVOLVED.

Encourage your people to play a meaningful role in your company. Let them feel involved and that their opinion is valued. Involve them in the decision making processes whenever possible, you will be surprised at the value they can add to your company if given the opportunity. The more they are involved, the more they will embrace the sense of ownership and provide unconditional service for your company.

COMMUNICATE.

Let the people in your organisation voice their opinions and share their insights. Encourage their input for ideas to grow and better manage the business. Always acknowledge employees when you are satisfied with their work, as recognition often surpasses the value of a salary increase.  Show your gratitude and communicate more often with your staff.

RECOGNISE.

Recognise that your employees have interests outside their workplace. Their personal well-being often contributes to creating a happy and effective workforce. Take an interest in their personal life (hobbies, sport etc.) and you may be surprised how much you have in common with them. A happy home life can help contribute to a more harmonious work environment.

HELP THEM GROW.

How well do you know your employees’ dreams, goals, priorities, ambitions? Knowing these things will help you understand them better and to develop career path plans to help them find more meaning in their work. Provide your employees with growth opportunities by investing in training and skills enhancement to further boost their abilities. Endeavor to keep your people challenged and interested and the benefits will flow on to the business as a whole.
